Fashion designer Ek Thongprasert founded his eponymous label in 2008. He moved to Antwerp, Belgium, where he set up his main office and in which country many showrooms feature his innovative collection. For the first few years, Ek Thongprasert focused primarily on women’s clothing and jewelry before also venturing into menswear and accessories.

Challenging people’s perception lies at the core of the brand’s DNA. The essence of Ek Thongprasert’s design philosophy is a strong approach towards the conceptual aspect; each collection is a complex combination of thoughts, design elements, which come from deep analysis into a concept. A result is a collection with pure uniqueness and originality. Each silhouette tells a different message through detail, color, shape and cutting, which together come to form a whole complete story.

First project: Ethnic

Ek Thongprasert first achieved international acclaim in 2010 with his first project Ethnic, which was a collaboration with Comme des Garçons from Japan. Comprising a collection of necklaces, Ethnic was inspired by antique tribal jewelry from Rajasthan. The pieces were designed to challenge people’s perception by creating a luxury diamond silhouette, yet made out of an unexpected material – silicon. Silicon later became one of the signature materials used by the brand.

If you’ve never heard of Ek Thongprasert, the first time you glance at Ethnic, it’s hard to pinpoint whether it’s about the photography or the jewelry. Because the lookbook pictures are just as catching as the vividly-coloured accessories. And they contrast and complement each other so well, that it’s thanks to them that Ek Thongprasert is a special brand.

Newest collection: Innovative Luxury 

Ek Thongprasert’s newest collection Innovative Luxury is also set to surprise and delight. Handcrafted using sophisticated production techniques, the collection was specially designed for those who appreciate high quality and fine craftsmanship.

Innovative Luxury was created to appeal to three types of women with distinctly different perceptions and styles. Feminine Glam represents the woman who was raised in a conservative world yet seamlessly blends into the modern world by expressing herself through bravery and courage. The silhouette for Feminine Glam is highlighted by the subtle blend of classic flower designs and embroidery. Masculine Woman expresses the working woman, and each piece conjures up a variety of perceptions such as a pearl necklace that can be bent into new shapes, or a bag that is decorated with hardware such as head bolts and knots.
